First, sharing news on :
The competition is:
When: Saturday, March 7th (arrive by 10am)
Tonight's CTF Reconnaissance Challenges:
For the club walk through tonight, I stepped the kiddos through various Reconnaissance challenges, including OSINT (Open Source Intelligence, or "googleing" challenges), then did an embedded VM nmap scanning challenge, scanning for open ports on our LAN, and then showed how the terminal version of Wireshark, called "termshark" can be used on a headless system (ie. no Windows/mouse UI, like you see on a terminal-only Linux server) in order to inspect sniffed/recorded SYN scanning traffic. We also learned how to translate a computer MAC addresses into "VendorIDs" to find out what kind of PC or laptop generated given network packets (e.g. like a Mac, Dell, or Nintendo device). All good stuff that you'll need for the big Cyber Cup competition.
Speaking of which, our last two Cyber Circuit meetings of the year will be on:
Where we'll cover the last two categories, Reverse Engineering and Web categories.
