Bi-Weekly Cyber Circuit - Virtual Cyber Cup Club Meeting - 0x05 - OSINT and Networking Reconnaissance Challenges

Coaches need to register their teams at the URL https://www.vacybercup.org/ by December 10th, and all team members must score at least some points in the new state-wide practice CTF at http://go.vacr.io/cybercup-practice, which runs from Dec 1st thru Feb 28th.

For the club walk through tonight, I stepped the kiddos through various Reconnaissance challenges, including OSINT (Open Source Intelligence, or "googleing" challenges), then did an embedded VM nmap scanning challenge, scanning for open ports on our LAN, and then showed how the terminal version of Wireshark, called "termshark" can be used on a headless system (ie. no Windows/mouse UI, like you see on a terminal-only Linux server) in order to inspect sniffed/recorded SYN scanning traffic. We also learned how to translate a computer MAC addresses into "VendorIDs" to find out what kind of PC or laptop generated given network packets (e.g. like a Mac, Dell, or Nintendo device).  All good stuff that you'll need for the big Cyber Cup competition.
