Computer science professor creates facial recognition software to identify Civil War portraits

Kurt Luther, an assistant professor in Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering, combines his interest in Civil War photography and expertise in computer science to create Civil War Photo Sleuth, facial recognition software that helps put a name to unidentified Civil War-era portraits.
