This is the Virginia Tech Child
Development Center For Learning and
00:06
Research. Today we're honored to have a visit from
00:10
our state's First Lady Pamela Northam.
She's visiting early childhood programs
00:15
throughout Southwest Virginia
and she selected our school on campus to tour and visit.
00:23
I love that this is an educational facility where we're doing research and
helping to understand the data around
00:27
the importance of those first few
critical years.
00:30
And it's important that we do have that
data so we can say,
00:33
this is an investment that's so worth it
in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We know
00:37
that for every dollar invested we get a huge return
00:40
in these early years and that's what
facilities like this are doing here at
00:43
Virginia Tech, they're bringing in early childhood
00:46
development courses, they're bringing the students here so
00:50
they can see it in action and that's a
great way to learn. We all like to learn
00:53
by doing, whether you're four or whether
you're 20.
00:56
And so they're doing that here and
providing that opportunity and it
00:59
provides care and opportunity for those
around the Virginia Tech campus.
01:08
She's aware that we are Virginia Quality
Center,
01:11
and then we also participate in the
state's mixed delivery and preschool
01:15
development grant initiatives.
And the purpose of those grants is to
01:19
enhance not just accessibility
but also affordability, as well as
01:23
quality, for early childhood
education throughout the state.
