Description: The Virginia Society of Ornithology, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and Virginia Tech are partnering to conduct the Second Breeding Bird Atlas (VABBA2) in Virginia. The primary objectives of the second BBA are to (1) d ocument the status and distribution of VA's breeding birds during the 2016-2020 breeding seasons; and (2) a ssess changes in breeding bird species distribution since the first Virginia BBA (1985-1989).
Citizen scientist volunteers will collect data on the bird species breeding throughout Virginia within predefined geographic blocks that cover the entire state. In this webinar, Ashley Peele will describe the purpose of VABBA2, the methodology, and how volunteers can be involved.
Presenter: Ashley Peele is the statewide Atlas Coordinator and is based at the Conservation Management Institute at Virginia Tech. She recently received her PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Tulane University. Her dissertation focused on population dynamics of Neotropical migrants in winter. She has ten years of field and research experience including managing long-term avian population monitoring studies in the southeastern US and Caribbean.
