This webinar is part of the Virginia Master Naturalist Continuing Education series.
Description: This webinar is a training on the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries' (DGIF) Adopt-A-Trail project, a new volunteer opportunity for Virginia Master Naturalists. The Adopt-A-Trail project is an effort to update and maintain the Virginia Birding & Wildlife Trail (VBWT) while providing an opportunity for Virginia Master Naturalist volunteers to connect with DGIF and their local VBWT sites. Staff from DGIF will provide background information on the VBWT and will explain everything you need to know about participating in the Adopt-A-Trail project (what it is, why it's important, and how to participate). The presentation will strive to answer many of the FAQs that have come up about the project and discuss how the project can be tailored to fit individual chapters. A representative from the Pocahontas Chapter of the VMNs will also be on hand to discuss their chapter's experience with the pilot project.
Presenters: Brian Moyer serves as the program manager for wildlife related recreation with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and has served in this position for five years. He is responsible for managing Virginia's statewide Birding and Wildlife Trail, public access opportunities for hunting and fishing, and outreach efforts to promote hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing.
Jessica Ruthenberg is the Watchable Wildlife Biologist for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and has worked with the agency for two years. She coordinates the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail, works with agency partners on the planning of birding festivals, and delivers a variety of outreach programming and communications on birding, wildlife viewing and nature appreciation.
